Daniel Day-Lewis
Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis (born 29 April 1957) is an English actor who also became an Irish citizen in 1993. He is known as one of the most selective actors in the film industry, having starred in only four films since 1997, with as many as five years between roles.[1] He is a method actor, known for his constant devotion to and research of his roles.[1] Often, he will remain completely in character for the duration of the shooting schedule of his films.
His portrayals of Christy Brown in My Left Foot (1989) and Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood (2007) won Academy and BAFTA Awards for Best Actor, and Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Awards. His role as Bill "The Butcher" Cutting in Gangs of New York earned him the BAFTA Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Daniel Day-Lewis in 'Nanou', 1986
Date: March 2008 More early DDL...here he is in Conny Templeman's 1986 film 'Nanou', starring Imogen Stubbs as a young Englishwoman who sets off adventuring in Europe, where she falls in love with Luc (Jean-Philippe Ecoffey), a young man who's involved in some rather unsavory activities. Daniel plays Max, the nice English guy she left behind. The role is brief, but I really like his hair.:) |

Daniel Day-Lewis in 'Shoestring', 1980

Daniel Day-Lewis in 'Stars and Bars', 1988
Date: June 2008 Here's a clip from what has thus far been Daniel Day-Lewis's only real comedy, the 1988 Pat O'Connor film Stars and Bars. In it Daniel plays Henderson Dores, an uptight English art dealer who's transplanted himself to NYC and is doing his level best to embrace the American way of life. When his boss sends him to the American south to acquire a rare painting from Loomis Gage (Harry Dean Stanton), he must contend not only with the eccentric Gage but his entire wacko family. Daniel Day-Lewis in 'The Insurance Man', 1986
Date: February 2008 This is a clip of Daniel Day-Lewis in an early role, that of the title character in the 1986 British TV movie 'The Insurance Man'. Daniel plays Kafka, a somewhat mysterious insurance bureaucrat whose counsel is sought by Franz, a dye worker suffering from a strange medical condition he believes was caused by his job. The scene doesn't make a lot of sense out of context, but hopefully you can enjoy it simply as another example of Daniel's seemingly limitless ability to transform himself. 'The ... |

|
Daniel Day-Lewis Meets Deborah Norville
Date: April 2008 Daniel Day-Lewis is interviewed by Deborah Norville for the Today Show on the night of his Best Actor win in 1990. |
Daniel Day-Lewis Meets The Press, 1990
Date: February 2008 Daniel Day-Lewis answers questions from the international media in the press room at the 62nd Academy Awards ceremony, following his Best Actor win for 'My Left Foot'. The picture quality on this one is not great (even by my standards, lol) but it's worth watching anyway. |

Daniel Day-Lewis on 'The Last Of The Mohicans', 1992
Date: January 2009 This is a brief interview with Daniel that aired on Entertainment Tonight shortly before The Last of The Mohicans was released in 1992.
